Meredith Goddard: Founder & Director
Life cycled in four year intervals for a long time for me - four years of high school; four years of college; four years to get tenure at a public high school school in Illinois; four years of full time employment at a private school in Portland, Oregon. The fifth year represents new beginnings and transformation. Five Years In is the leap between school and the world.
I am launching Five Years In to support young people as they enter or transition in life beyond school in an era of innovation.
I have a decade of experience as a classroom teacher and leader in schools. I am the co-founder and the Director of Startup Camp, now FounderZ Weekend. I love working with young people, but I could not continue to be part of an educational system that is so disconnected with the pace of change, skills required, and problems that need to be solved in the world. I’ve come to realize that my life's mission is to empower young people by creating innovative learning experiences and connecting what happens in school with the world outside of school. I believe that everything is connected and we need to connect young people to opportunities. I believe we can do more to prepare young people to thrive in a hyper-competitive, global economy that is being transformed by the Fourth Industrial Revolution. I am passionate about building a learning ecosystem in Portland that connects young people to mentors and educational experiences beyond the classroom.
When I’m not working, I run long distances, read, try new recipes, hang out with neighbors, and spend as much time as possible with my husband, young daughter, and chocolate lab. Connect with me on Twitter, LinkedIn or through email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
